Genealogy

Genealogy is the study of family ancestral lines.  Your task is to learn more about your family and investigate its history.

Part 1:  Family Tree:  Create a family tree as far back as you are able to go.  You can do both of your parents or just one.  Look online to see how others have created a family tree for display.  The Family Tree Builder in the Resources would be a good place to begin.  The visual for your family tree should be at least the size of a half a sheet of poster board. Include first and last names as well as where they spent most of their life.  (Worth 10 points)

Part 2: Family Interview:  This is a two page paper, typed, double spaced in 12 point font. Use MLA formatting.  (If you aren't sure what that is, ask someone who had me last year!) Make sure to write from 3rd person point of view.

Begin with your family dynamic.  Who lives in your household, who is in charge of certain aspects of the household,  each person's role in the household, places you've lived, how long you've been in NP/MH, or even how you came to be here.

Talk about your extended family.  Are they close, do you see them, is it a large family, do you get along, etc.

Next, interview a relative that is a least your parents' age or older.   You should concentrate on asking your relative about interesting stories from their childhood about the family.  Ideas might include:  a weird relative, a famous relative, a hard time in the family, a myth of the family, family traditions, items that have been passed from generation to generation.   (Worth 20 points)

Part 3:  Presentation:  Tell us what you learned about your family history.  Can include items from your paper, but also tell us interesting things.   What is your lineage?  Where did your family line come from?  What nationalities are in your family line?   You can choose how you would like to present this information.   Google slides, PowerPoint, make a video for us to watch, etc.  Most importantly, be creative and show me your effort.  (Worth 20 points)
