PAGE FORMATTING
ADDING A QUOTATION IN THE BODY OF YOUR ESSAY
-
In MLA style, referring to the works of others in your text is done by using what is known as parenthetical citation.
-
Right now we are just working on citing page numbers, later we will include the author.
-
All quotations will be double spaced, just like the essay itself. There will be no extra spaces before or after typing your quotation. It should look like the rest of your document by follow the last thing you typed.
-
Type your quotation exactly as it is in the text. Put quotation marks at the beginning; quotation marks at the end. After the quotation marks, type the page number for the quote in parenthesis, followed by the punctuation for the quote. (See example.)
-
Example: "A giant of a man was standing in the doorway. His face was almost completely hidden by a long shaggy mane of hair and a wild, tangled beard, but you could make out his eyes, glinting like black beetles under all the hair" (46).
